Top 5 Tips for Your Next Snowbird Getaway

As February gets closer, many snowbirds (ourselves included!) start dreaming about a weeklong getaway. We’ve been exploring a few options and noticed some exciting deals—right now, Dublin and Italy are both showing up on sale. That got us thinking: how do we balance chasing great travel deals with finding the history, culture, and activities we truly enjoy?

Over time, we’ve developed a simple approach to choosing where to go. Here are the five key things we look for when planning our next snowbird escape—and where we go to look:

1. Activities That Match Our Interests

Do we want history, food, outdoor adventures, or a little of everything? We always start by checking what the destination is best known for and making sure it aligns with the type of trip we want.

2. Historical & Cultural Experiences

Travel is more rewarding when it connects us to a place’s past and people. From castles in Dublin to ancient ruins in Italy, we look for destinations that will let us walk through history, not just read about it.

3. Value for the Price

Sales are great, but we also compare what’s included—flights, lodging, tours—so we know the deal really fits our budget.

4. Accessibility & Ease of Travel

We factor in flight times, connections, and how easy it is to get around once we land. Sometimes a “deal” isn’t worth it if it adds extra hassle.

5. Resources for Research

Our go-to research spots include:

  • Airline sale pages and fare trackers
  • Travel forums and blogs
  • Tour company specials
  • City tourism websites for event calendars
  • Social media groups where fellow snowbirds share tips

👉 The fun part is putting all of this together: matching a great price with a destination that fits our style. Dublin and Italy may be on sale now—but the real win is finding a place that offers both savings and experiences we’ll remember.

Where are you planning to escape this winter?
